Aswan ........
To the south of Luxor, Aswan is built on the East bank of the Nile at the sight of the first cataract - obstruction in the Nile - which gives rise to several islands of which Elephantine and Kitchener's are the most well known. The west bank of Aswan is home to the tombs of the Aswan Nobles, the Aga Khan Mausoleum and Saint Simeon's Monastery as well as the most dramatic yellow sand dunes that reach right down to the edge of the Nile.
The gentle breeze and many islands makes sailing in a felucca a must in this most beautiful area. The Botanical Gardens of Kitchener's Island, the museum on Elephantine Island and a Nubian village can only be reached by sail or motor boat.
From Aswan it is an absolute must that you visit the two magnificent rock temples of Abu Simbel with its 20 meter high (over 65 feet) seated figures of Ramses II. We can arrange for you to travel by air, air-conditioned mini bus or travel in the height of luxury on a Lake Nasser cruise.
A cruise between Aswan and Luxor is also to be recommended as you can then also make visits to the Temples of Kom Ombo, Esna and Edfu on the journey. Nile Cruises can be 3 nights, 4 nights or 7 nights.
With hotels in the town, out of town and on individual islands only reached by boat, Aswan can be as energetic or as relaxing as you wish.
