Lake Nasser Cruise .......

Lake Nasser is a massive fresh water lake with an average width of 10 Kilometres. It lies behind the High Dam at Aswan and extends around 500 kilometres to the south. This area, known as Nubia, linked Egypt to the heart of Africa and was an important trading route. Many of the temples and tombs around Luxor show the Ancient Egyptians returning with many treasures from their journeys beyond Nubia.

The impressive high dam is a remarkable feat of engineering as was the relocation of the great temples of Ramses II and his wife Nefertari at Abu Simbel which most travellers know about but what is less well known is that in total twenty two temples and tombs were moved to save them from the rising water level.

A Lake Nasser cruise allows you time to relax in 5 luxury whilst seeing the best of these temples and offering you the most spectacular view as you cruise up to Abu Simbel. This really is the very best way to see this magnificent temple.

On route you will have the opportunity to visit:

Kalabsha Temple - This temple was built by the Roman Emperor Augustus and dedicated to the god Horus. It is part of a complex that was moved on to this island in order to save them from the rising waters of Lake Nasser and can only be visited by boat. On the island you will also have the chance to visit the Kiosk of Kertassi - a small Greco-Roman columned chapel erected in honour of Isis, Beit El Wali - a temple cut into the rock that was built by Ramses II and dedicated to the god Amun-Re, and the Chapel of Dedwen - also a temple cut into the rock containing relief's of an, as yet, unidentified pharaoh giving offerings to the Nubian god Dedwen.

Wadi el Seboua built by Ramses II and dedicated to the gods Amun Ra and Ra Harmakis with its avenue of sphinxes that lead you to the rock temple. In later times it was used as a church.

Temple of Dakka - A Ptolemaic temple on the site of an earlier temple dedicated to Thoth which was built by Amenhotep II. Known to the Egyptians as Pselqet and to the Greeks as Pselchis.

Temple of Meharakka - The Greco-Roman temple of Meharakka is dedicated to Serapis who is formed from a composite of Osiris and an Apis bull.

Amada - This sandstone temple of the 18th dynasty was built during the reign of Thutmose III, Amenhotep III and Thutmose IV. It is dedicated to the "god of the morning sun" Amun-Re.

Derr - Ramses II's rock cut temple is also for Amun-Re but is shared with Ptah the god of creation.

Tomb of Penout - The small rock cut tomb of the viceroy of Nubia under Ramses VI.

Kasr Ibrim - This fort is thought to date back to the Middle Kingdom and has been used in a variety of ways over time, including as a church and a mosque, it is the only monument on Lake Nasser that remains in its original location. This is due to its location, high on a hill overlooking the valley which made it an important strategic site since ancient times but as the water level has increased it now appears to be on the banks of Lake Nasser. Entrance to this ancient sight is not permitted so photos are taken and your guide will explain its history from the Sun Deck of the boat.

Abu Simbel - Enjoy majestic views as you cruise up to this stunning temple of Ramses II and in the evening see the Sound & Light Show followed by a candlelight dinner on board.

As experts let us plan your holiday for you to make this an exceptional experience you will never forget.

You will have the full services of a Touch Travel representative and appropriate guides on all visits.
